Project Runway Season 5 Debuts with EcoFriendly Designer

By Dara Montaque - Posted on 15 July 2008

Folks around this house have been anticipating Season 5 of Project Runway which airs tomorrow. We anxiously awaited every weekly episode of seasons 1-3, but missed all of season 4 -- our household has become much too busy! Since we no longer have our DVR, we've decided to set aside 1 hour every Wednesday to view Project Runway. I'm particularly interested in this season because one of the contestants is an eco-friendly designer. Well...50% eco-friendly.

Leanne Marshall is a graduate of The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in San Francisco, and a current Portland, Oregon resident. Her clothing line, Leanimal, is not 100% sustainable but she does incorporate fabrics such as hemp, bamboo and organic cotton. Marshall says she uses recyclable and sustainable materials on a 50-50 basis, but would eventually like it to be greater than that.

Now as much as I would like to support the green designer, she doesn't have my automatic support...she gotta come correct! We'll see.
